“A Musical Extravaganza” The Mail on Sunday, “Pure Entertainment” The Times, “Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain Watch Out!” News of the World, “A Master Class Performance” Daily Mirror.

These are just some of the revues we might have had if these nationals had turned up at The Boughton Beerfest yesterday following The Invicta Ukulele Clubs inaugural public performance.

Seriously, the band under the leadership of our Dennis did our club proud by delivering two sets of songs to an enthusiastic audience which had them singing along and dancing from the off. Dressed in all their finery with brightly coloured waistcoats and bow ties the band took us on a musical journey of well known ukulele music alongside George Formby, Vera Lynn, Tom Jones and The Beatles. Mick on the harmonica provided an enthusing solo accompliment which added even more sparkle and atmosphere to the already foot tapping marquee audience which generated two standing ovations and encores. Those in attendance gave their rapturous applause after each and every song with the shout of “More” echoing around the 50 odd barrels of real ale on sale during the three day festival. Our much valued and generous sponsor “Right Track Music” of Ashford provided yet again more funding for our clubs new and impressive signage which linked the two partners and left no one in doubt who we are and who our sponsor is. But the icing on the cake came when three members of a large Music Hall/Theatre group based in the South East who had come along to hear us immediately booked the band to perform at their next event at the Central Theatre, Chatham! (Watch this space for more details)

Every one on that stage played a part in delivering a great performance which saw their commitment to all those extra band practice nights pay off handsomely. Today, each and every member of our club can feel very proud of the following members for what was achieved yesterday and all within just 14 weeks!

Those worthy of mention are as follows; Dennis, Debbie, Christian, Patsy, Mick, Jim, Marco, Cliff and the two David’s.

Well done and thanks to each and every one of you for making it the success it undoubtedly was.
